Georgia on my mind...and Rock Vegas

March 13, 2008

So...I guess its warp speed for me and the business. I have taken on a new outlook for Per4mance Training and Totalcyclist.com

The action is heating up for race commentary. This time of year is always nice because the weather gets beautiful, riding ramps up and my race commentary gets in full froth.

I started warming up the pipes in 08 at the 2008 Georgia Cup first race in Albany, GA. The weather was stellar (yes I said stellar). The racing was pretty animated in the Pro 1/2. Nick Reistad of Jelly Belly and Big John Murphy of Health Net came with tired legs but ridiculous form after Tour of California. Some other regional 1/2's were there to show what they had. It started with a flurry of ill-fated attacks around the .8 mile course. Figure 8 style. Eventually John would wriggle of the hook for about 5 laps...but the teams that were interested in the overall eventually reeled John back.

Interestingly the race was fortified with time bonuses on the Preems'. That's nice and adds a full on assault for each preem because of it being a GC race. Most of the sprinters and GC were knocking heads looking for time bonuses but in the end it was to come to a bunch gallop. No one team could take control of the front, which usually leads to a very nervous last 200 meters. The last 200 meters just happens to have a very nice left hander. The amatuer races proved that you had to be in 3rd or higher wheel to come out on top. Emilio Esconeguy was sitting 3rd wheel and clawed his way to first at the line! Very exciting race for sure....Kudos to all the GA cup guys. This year is even better than the past 3! Here is a sponsor tag if you are interested!

Most of the race commentating gigs are regional, til April, and have a great deal of closeness to me for many reasons.

This weekend we stay in NC for Out Like a Lion and then its back to ole' faithful for me. A race that I grew up racing and loving. Eventually I started race commentary many moon ago at the "Come See Me Criterium" and watched it grow in size and popularity. Last year, due to scheduling challenges, I missed the commentary of the RHBC crit. This year...I'M BAAACK. So, hang on southeastern racers and Rock Vegas, gonna blow the doors off. It starts with street sprints....and I'm tuning my voice.

Look for a post soon on all to come!

Tailwind,

Chad
