Married to Mike Airheart, and Mother to Peter and Caitlin

Susan is currently a competitive age group triathlete, duathlete and runner. She has competed on Team USA 4x for Triathlon and Duathlon

  • 2008 ITU World Championship Duathlon, Rimini Italy, 6th place AG

  • 2009 ITU World Championship, Triathlon, Gold Coast Australia
  • 2009 Recognized by USA Triathlon as ALL AMERICAN
  • 2010 USA Triathlon LC National Championship, 9th place AG
  • 2011 ITU World Championship, Henderson Nevada

Veteran of numerous road races of all distances with the following PR's....Also competed in 6 marathons including 4 consecutive Boston Marathons, NY and Marine Corp

From 1996-2006, Susan was the head men's and women's cross country and track coach at Charlotte Catholic HS. She led the women's team to 3 consecutive North Carolina State Championships, and one runner up finish, and the men's team to a runner up finish at the state championship in 2005. 3x she was named Charlotte Observer Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year. Susan started the indoor track program at Catholic, and was the head track coach from 2002-2005, leading the team to its first ever conference championship. She was voted Conference Cross Country and Track Of the Year numerous times. During her years of high school coaching she also served under Roy Benson, as Assoc Director of Nike's Smokey Mountain Running Camp, UNC Asheville (9 yr staff coach).

Susan's philosophy is that triathlon is not an event, but a lifestyle. She believes that Lance got it right when he said that "It's not about the bike"....rather, it's about the clothes :)
